You I know your my dad is great when…
- he can speak fluent japanese but his daughter takes 1 minutes to think and process a sentence of 8 words.
- he knows photocopy machines back to front, top to bottom and every nut and bolt while his 2 daughters only learned how to use photocopy machine 6 months ago, and nothing more than just pressing the ‘copy’ button.
- he was a handsome basketball state player.
- he is absolutely patient and quiet with our ridiculous loud chatter.
- he was always punctual when picking us up from school. In fact, he reached before the class ends. And he always fetch us here and there without complaining….:)
Our dad…

I wouldn’t tell him in person what I have written today because….I just can’t. I know it would be great to tell your dad how great he is but, probably I am not used to telling him stuff like this. I know every dad has a soft spot for his daughters and I know he has one for us too. But since I was born, I never go daddy here and daddy there because I am very boyish. I was always the ‘cool’ one in the family until I studied abroad. (read below) That was when I have transformed into a warmer person. There was a time when we can’t communicate at all. Then, I purposely learned about cars, sound system and electronic appliances so I can have more topics to chat with him.
I remember the first time I saw a fully modified car on the street and I went:"Dad, Supra!" He was so surprised that I knew Supra and we talked about its modification from exhaust pipe, turbo, engine etc. We chatted so happily and I learned a lot from my dad too. I didn’t know he knew so much about cars. Then the following days, he took me to many car showrooms to look for cars. =) I was so glad and honoured that I understood every single thing he said about CARS!
I really miss those times when we sang the chorus simultaneously in the car when listening to songs like Carpenters’, Bread’s, Ann Murray’s and Japanese folk songs. My dad loves japanese folk songs and that is why we know many japanese songs too. And he was the one who took us to our very first japanese cuisine when we were young. Subsequently, I dragged my friends one by one for japanese during high school. Dragged was because people always have this misconception that japanese only served raw food. =)
Daddy, I just want to say "Happy father’s day and you have been a great dad." I know I have told you this last week when you sent me off. Sorry for not saying goodbye though because my throat was tight and my tears were beyond control after I hugged you. I didn’t want to look at you with tears in my eyes because I didn’t want to upset you. Please take good care because you have promised me that you will drive my kids to school with your 8 seaters car. So please….stay healthy always.
Love, your boyish daughter.
