Wagashi day
I joined a bunch of students at the Wagashi day. Wagashi means japanese confectionery that is typically made of rice flour and red bean paste. It is very sweet and is usually served during the tea ceremony. (It is best to eat with tea because it is extremely sweet!)
The lesson was conducted by a bunch of enthusiastic students from the Japanese cultural group. My own students were supposed to join me but they were so late that they did not turn up at all! =(
We were taught how to make the anko (red bean) paste, Sakura mochi (the pink one with leave) and Ichigo Daifuku.
My heart, soul and sweat…Oops…eew…

I am very proud of my Sakura mochi (the pink one with leave). The pink skin was thin and perfectly round. Ooh..did I tell you that I can make great pancakes and dorayaki? =) But my daifuku was absolutely hopeless! The batter was so sticky that I can’t even shape it! No matter how much flour I applied on my hand, the mixture still refused to be shaped!! Argh…
Look at this picture from wikipedia

And then look at mine…

I know…it is hopeless. =( And my daifuke tasted awful. I got sick in my stomach when I had a bite. Needless to say, I spat immediately and I only took the strawberries.
But the pink one was quite ok…..still…need lots of improvement. Who wants to be my daifuke guinea pigs? =)
