I’ve been around…

Wait a second–not the in the way you think! What I mean is that before I decided that I would actually pursue a career in freelance graphic design, I had a few tries at some other jobs and activities here and there.

I might even say that if I hadn’t done those things, I would probably wouldn’t be the same girl I am today.

I used to do inventory in a music box shop at one point. It was incredibly boring and I knew it would be the second I walked in there asking for a job.

The music boxes looked like this:

nothing special but not bad, right?

unfortunately, the stock room looked like this:

not good. not good at all.

While I was still but a wee graphic design college co-ed, strange old Cherry used to be in a band. We even played a few shows in front of actual audiences (plural) of people. We were called The Straight And Narrow.

We weren’t super famous and we usually just played at my uncle’s club on Tuesday nights but it was something that I had always dreamed of doing and the second I was out of the house, I found some like-minded folks and we started rehearsing a few songs. Most of them were covers but I actually wrote an original about an old XBF, called Patricio. I felt that it was the best one cause it always got the best reaction from crowds but the other guys never agreed with me. Probably because it was about MY ex.

Anyways, I was the only girl in the band and there were 5 of us all together. Here’s a pic of us playing a show… this was towards the end of our run. Sorry,  I know it’s REALLY unclear but it’s the only one I could find:

I actually kind of miss playing with those guys but I don’t think I’ll ever try playing in a band again. I like my life WAAAAY too much now lol…

But when I do look back, the one thing that really drew me to being in a group was the travel! I would day dream of us making it big enough to go get on a plane one day and see the world. I mean these guys made it happen so why couldn’t I? Alas, it wasn’t in the stars, I guess. Even so, it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Unfortunately, I don’t really keep in touch with the guys these days. If I did it probably wouldn’t feel too natural to tell you the truth. I was actually the youngest one in the group at the time and was pretty much treated like a baby! I’m sure they meant well though.

If you’d like to learn more about playing the piano or keyboard, check out your local keyboard club and see if it’s any good. It’s a great place to find… band members. 😉

So, there you have it another strange story from Cherry… maybe I’ll disclose a bit more some time soon but for the meantime, this should keep you all satisfied!

Til’ next time my loyal Cherrythians! Tralah!
