My class starts at 8 a.m from Monday to Thursday. (Yeah..while others report to work at 8.30am)

That’s not my main point here.

On Monday, exactly at 8.15am, half way through my lesson at the computer lab…

Loud music suddenly blasted into our ears..

Me: Who did that??!! *Looking around for the culprit*

The students were as stunned as me..

Then it struck me that the school has decided to play national parade songs twice a day (through the school PA system), for 15 minutes. 8.15am and 5.45pm. I called it – the NDP song compilation.. from the first NDP song Singapore ever composed. There are english, malay and chinese songs. Great..

So I had to stop my lesson, waiting for it to stop.

Student A: “Suddenly I felt so embarrassed to be singaporean…”

The 2nd day wasn’t too bad. The music volume was much lowered. But as soon as the music started, I heard my students banging tables, frustrated sighs and many many “WALAUs” and “STUPIDs”. Some put on their headphones.

Today is the 4th morning that I have to deal with it. Guess what, I changed my teaching plan and gave my students some tasks to do when the song was played, so we wouldn’t waste our precious 15 minutes. :)
