My sis: Hey! Did you take mom out???

Me: Yeah…we had urchin sashimi! :)

Sis: Yerr….not fair! Everyone has mother here and I don’t have….:(

My mom flew in on Saturday, for mother’s day of course. I felt so honoured!! So as promised, I took her for a Japanese dinner.

The reason was…I wanted to recommend sea urchin to her. I had it in Japan and I love it so much that I almost licked the plate! *thanks Nishii-san*

It is not easy to find it in Singapore. Though it can be spotted in the menu, it is always “sold out”!

We were pretty blessed that the urchins were happily waiting to be “devoured” on Sunday.

*drool* I want more urchins! It was milky, succulent and sweet!

Mom was expecting them to cut “the sea rambutan” open in front of us, scoop the flesh and serve it on the spot. Too bad, they just pulled the urchins out from a frozen container. *Hah!*

We shared all the food and had a great conversation. I shared with her what I have learned so far on counselling and psychology (mostly on how parenting affects a kid’s character and outlook till he/she becomes an adult) It was funny because I do not have kids..yet. But we both enjoyed sharing our knowledge as if 2 mothers were talking about raising kids.

What I didn’t expect was when she asked me how I thought about her parenting skill. Tell you, it was a challenging question. But I was glad that she asked because for the very first time, I was given a chance to “feedback” to her.

So I said:”Mom, no mother is perfect. No one is perfect, in fact. Though there were weaknesses, you have raised both of us well. And I think we both are pretty ‘normal’. Looking back, we had a wonder childhood which we hope to pass on to our kids. !”

Mom was beaming.

Thanks MOM!! You’re indeed one special lady!!!
