A few weeks ago, a bunch of makan (means ‘eat’ in Malay) kings decided to travel up north for good food expedition.

And there we were…the good old makan town, MALACCA!

Do you guys find the text funny?

Me: How come they striked out the words like this? Wouldn’t be easier to just remove them all?
Mom: Aiya, those ‘lines’ at the back are supposed support the text lar..

Frankly, it was my first time in Malacca. Ok OK!! I know I am a lousy Malaysian.

Guess what this is…

A very secretive cobbler..

We have a few items that we wanted to try on the list: Chicken rice ball and chendol. Mom had a superlicious chendol once at a deserted kampong and she wanted to have it again!

I must say, we were travelling blindly without a map. But the locals are very kind. There was this uncle who owns a sunday sundry shop gave us “good” tips for both items.

So “good” that we had to travel to another place for the same item.

This is the first chicken rice balls we had. The shop was so crowded even though it was way past the lunch hour.

Looks like fish ball to me…

Honestly, it didn’t taste as good as I expected. Mom, being the only person who has tasted chicken rice ball before also said that it wasn’t that good…:(

Feeling a little dissapointed, we decided to eat something else..but before that, we came to the red ‘buildings’…

This church is so beautiful! Too bad, no photography allowed in the church.

So, after climbing lots of stairs, we went hungry again. (thanks to the not-so-delicious chicken rice)

This one is much better! It was sold in a foodcourt opposite a huge shopping mall.

We wanted to look for the ‘superlicious’ chendol. There was a mangosteen-looking stall right across the red church. Many people were sipping and devouring chendols.

The stall didn’t look very impressive and I just went:”Nah…I don’t think the chendol is that good..”

So, we went back to the sundry shop and find out about the kampong style chendol. The uncle said he had a better recommendation. MUCH MORE delicious than the kampong one. We were delighted. He signalled his son to guide us there on his bike. We were so excited that we could almost see rainbows and stars in our eyes.

After 10 minutes, we were back to where we came from. Our minds whispered to us:”Please..don’t tell me it was the mangosteen stall…”

And yes. IT WAS THE MANGOSTEEN STALL!!

The uncle smiled at us while pointing the mangosteen stall:”NAH!! That’s the BEST chendol you can find in Malacca!”

Our jaws dropped…so did our eyeballs..

Mom said I shouldn’t judge the look of the stall but we were very skeptical. Anyway, we had the chendols and guess what??

It was SOOOOOOOOOO NOT delicious!! Really, it tasted like water with a little bit of syrup and coconut. THAT WAS IT!!

Look at my face, full of hopes and delights..:(

Well, the only thing left on the list was to visit the night market. I must say, it is the best place for food and good!

malacca-77.jpg

And entertainment, too.

Ah-hah…ah-hah

The atmosphere is so warm and relaxed. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle. We had a superlicious chendol and ice kacang there. So much better than the mangosteen one.

This is Malacca Chendol and it is served with chewy malt on top.

Now I am looking forward to go to Malacca again. And this time, I ONLY want to visit the night market. It only opens on weekends, 7pm onwards.
