“Cher, you ownself can do it or not?”

When I asked her what it meant, she said it meant “myself”. And when I asked her if there was such a word, without hesitation, she said:”YES! OF COURSE!”

I am amazed by their creativity indeed. How many of you (not singaporean) can invent a word like this and feel absolutely comfortable and proud about it? And the most important thing is, it makes sense!!

Another word is, “You daughter is damn one kind!”

Er…actually I am still not sure how to use this word but my mom actually understood it. She said it carried the similar meaning as “satu macam” in malay. So I think I could inteprete it as “one of a kind”? I will ask my students more tomorrow.

I think my singlish has now officially advanced to the advanced level – by learning ownself and from my students.
