“Hah! You’re singaporeanised!”
Update: One more thing…my students called me “CHER”. Not a short for CHERRY but a short for TEA-CHER. =)
I have been “spotted” recently for speaking like this..
1. “Tank-chiu” for thank you
2. “Sto-be-lly” for strawberry
3. Instead of “Huh?” or “Pardon?”, I said “See-mee?” (hokkien for ‘what?’)
4. WALAU!!! (many many times)
5. Cool ‘sia‘…!
6. “Co-rour” for colour
7. I start most of my sentences with “You know ‘ah’..”
8. I use malay words in my sentence daily. Eg. Kena, wayang, kalang-kabok (actually is kelam-kabut, means chaotic, confused or obscure)
9. “Act blur”
10. “Blur like sotong” ->I still don’t quite understand the relation between blur and sotong
11. “Sianz” man..(yes, it’s ‘sian’ with a ‘z’. It means bored or tired in hokkien)
12. Kena ‘owned‘. (it’s the gamer’s lingo. It means being defeated. My students said “kena owned by teacher” when I commented (mostly negative) about their work.
13. “Sur-o-not?” (Sure?)
14. I end my sentence with ‘leh‘ most of the time.
15. Oh, and ‘singaporeanised‘ is definitely a new word for me!

Ehmm (Clear Throat)
From our famous coxford dictionary -
Sotong is malay word for “squid”.
Used to describe someone as rather inept or in a world of his own. Presumably, it comes from the squid’s emission of a cloud of ink, hence the popular phrase, “blur like sotong.”
May be used as both noun and adjective.
1. “Aiyah, why you ask him to go and do things? He’s damn sotong one!”
2. “Why are you such a sotong?”
:p
