One of my favourite pictures, taken during the Albany trip in 2004.

I’ve lost weight, although I have been eating a lot recently. I guess it must be the 15 minutes walk everyday to and from school. I used to complain about walking from one end to the other. (I am staying at the west gate and my faculty is at the east of the whole bloody campus!) Anyway, as long as I don’t have to carry my laptop to work, I am fine. I enjoy the fresh air and the greens along the way. The morning breeze is exhilarating! I meet several interesting individuals along the way, such as the malay gardener, a cleaner from India etc. I always bump into the same old uncle who sweeps the pedestrian every morning. He always asks me the same question: ‘Have you taken your breakfast?‘ in Hokkien after I said hi to him.

When I reach my office, I will bump into the same old auntie who cleans our office every morning. And again, she speaks to me in Hokkien and I communicate with my ‘half past six’ Hokkien. I noticed that Singapore employs many retired old folks to do the cleaning. I guess it helps to keep the old folks busy rather than sitting at home and staring at the ceiling. And the auntie told me that they are paid quite well too.

And now I realised why every husband hopes to see a delicious meal served in front of them every time they come home from work. To me, I no longer care about what food I have for dinner, as along as there is a meal served right in front of me, without having to cook or driving out to buy. My mom has done a great job for preparing dinner. It is just a simple meal but it means so much to me. =)

I think I have grown up after 2 weeks. I can’t really tell how different I am now, but I guess I have ‘crossed over’ the transition and finally accepted and adapted to my new lifestyle (of walking and taking public transportations).

The oldies cluster

My cluster is the most happening and crazy cluster in the department. As I mentioned before, all my colleagues are married and have kids. So as you can imagine, their era is very different from mine. My colleagues were pretty surprised that I listened to their kind of songs: Teresa Teng, the song called Vincent and etc. I love oldies. My all time favourites are Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. In fact, I listen to a wide range of music, ranging from RnB to symphony orchestra, as long as it suits my listening mood..=)
