Do you want to see the world and make money while you’re at it?

That’s what I wanted to do and somehow my calling of becoming a travelling freelance graphic artist fell into my lap!

But there are several career paths that you could pick that would be great for travelling around the world and you’d be doing it while picking up a paycheck for it every month! How can you beat that?

So here is my list of top career paths that will get you out and about this wonderful planet of ours. All you have to do is take your pick and as long as you’re into travel like I am, you’ll be thanking me later:

1. Freelance Graphic Artist (who works from her lappy)

become a travelling freelance graphic designerOK, I’m hoping you saw that coming. My top career for travelling and seeing the world is MY OWN career in freelance graphic design. I can go anywhere I want and as long as I have an internet connection, I can make sure my clients are happy. It’s incredibly fulfilling opening up my laptop in a different timezone and checking my email to find a list of revisions waiting. All I do is order a margarita by the pool and do some quick edits and I’m done!

Alright, for the sake of transparency I should let you know that this didn’t happen overnight. I spent several years working my way through the trenches until I had done these 2 things:

  • I made a good name for myself and my graphic design services on SEVERAL freelance websites. This is essential to make sure the work keeps on coming.
  • I saved enough money to buy an awesome, over-powered laptop that can do everything I want it to on a whim.

Take note though that this is really over-simplifying things but as long as you have good talent and excellent work ethic, things will fall into place after you complete the above steps. Trust me!

…but I digress…

2. Pilot

become a pilotThis should also be pretty obvious. Not only will you be doing SO MUCH travelling that you’ll probably be sick of it, but you get free flights anywhere you go depending on the airline you work for (sometimes even for your family and friends). That alone should percolate your interest if you don’t want to foot the bill for super expensive plane tickets for the rest of your life. Now all you got to do is learn how to fly!

3. Touring Musician

tour the world as a musicianBand members and musicians have travel in their blood. After spending countless years learning an instrument by ear, and learning how to read notation, recording an album, etc. the pot of gold at the end of tunnel is the awesome touring cycle! Even relatively unknown bands have crossed oceans to promote and tour behind an album or two and the ones who do make it big will be touring all the corners of the world for several years in a row.

4. Join the United Nations

join the united nationsIf you’re up for a challenge, you can join the United Nations. There are several opportunities available to apply for and if you have the skill set and education they are looking for, you could find yourself on the way to some of the farthest corners of the world. It’s probably important to note though that you should be ready to see some places that are truly impoverished and need help, but as long as you take pleasure in making a difference in the world (as many of us should) this job will pay your way through to a lifetime of travel and fulfillment.

Conclusion

So, there you have it! I hope you can find a great job that will take you around the world or at least give you the freedom to do so. I have and I never looked back!

Til next time my wonderful Cherrythians! Tralah!
