Can’t believe I was still “shocked” by teeny weeny bits of surprises after living in Singapore for 3 years.
Last weekend, we decided to go for a beach BBQ-picnic to unwind from stressful week. When talking about beautiful beaches, one would instantly think of SENTOSA beach right?
And so happily, we packed our mini BBQ pit, blanket, pillow, wine and drove all the way to Sentosa.
Just right before the gantry, Don expressed his concern:”Mm..I have a feeling that we can’t do BBQ at the beach…”
“You must be kidding me! NO BBQ AT THE BEACH?? What kind of beach is that??!!” I exclaimed.
So I asked the staff who processed our entry fees. He said he wasn’t sure. Fine, we just tried our luck then.
True enough, when we headed to one of the more secluded beach, we found that “OH-NO” NO BBQ sign.

“I mean…seriously, what kind of beach is this that people are not allowed to camp and BBQ at. In Penang, we can do all BBQ we want at the beach..” I grumbled.
Surpisingly, I didn’t feel disappointed but just a bit “shocked”. The beach looked very nice indeed. The activities that happened at the beach seemed to “blend very well” with the setting…people play volleyballs, beautiful looking umbrellas with beautiful people and hunky guards patrolling…
In fact, it was SO NICE that it almost looked……very MANMADE. Don and I felt so awkward and out-of-place.
Anyway, we drove all the way from Sentosa to the other side of the Singapore – Changi beach.
There there….a natural beach with random fishing enthusiasts, people swimming with their dogs, cats napping under the trees…and THIS, is a REAL KIND OF BEACH I was talking about.
Can you spot the rubbish at the background?

Though there were rubbish here and there but still, I felt more relaxed…felt FREE and NOT-BEING WATCHED.

The nice thing about the beach was I felt the “freedom” in everyone who was at the beach. We were surrounded by modest dressing people – no elaborate beach wear so that you can “match” the beach”. It was great! In fact, we fell asleep at the beach despite of active fishing activities and chatters nearby.
Just as we were leaving happily after a good nap, I spotted a banner that said…
“APPLY CAMPING PERMIT FROM AXS”
I mean…PERMIT FOR CAMPING?? SERIOUSLY???
