Scenario:
In a bar. You are happily chatting with a girl friend. Out of the blue, a messenger comes and tap on your shoulder and says:“The guy over there thinks you’re cute..”
What would you do?
A) Look for “the guy” and give the most charming smile.
B) Stand up and shake his hand, strike a conversation.
C) Say “Oh”, and continue with whatever thing you are doing.
I was put on a spot for a good 5 minutes. Agreed to go to a friend’s gathering and naively assumed that it was held at a quite cafe or restaurant. Upon reaching the “cafe”, heard bass thumping real hard and I knew it was no cafe or restaurant.
I was still wearing my working clothes while others dressed out to kill. -_-
Met a lady (let’s call her D) who was same age as me who worked in an advertising agency. She was very nice and was “lured” by her married-best-friend to be there to “get to know more guys”. We happily chatted until….
“Excuse me..” A hot-looking lady tapped on my shoulder. “The guy there thinks you’re hot.”
“Er…Oh!! Er…Ok”. Turned back to D and continued our conversation.
“Er…excuse me.. The guy there thinks you’re really cute..Er..Perhaps you might want to stand up to say Hi?”
Frankly, I was shocked. Thought that only happened in the movie. Didn’t prepare any response. Looked at my friend with the “what-should-I-do” look.
He urged:“Stand up!! Don’t be rude..”
At the corner of my eyes, I saw “the guy” grinning at me behind the hot lady. Aiks…
“Aaaaaalllriiiight..” I stood up and shook his hand. “Thanks. I’m very flattered, indeed.”
“Welcome…you’re cute.” He politely answered.
Just as I wanted to “unshake” his hand and to resume my conversation with D, he held my hand and asked:”Do you want to join me at the bar there?”
Panicked. Heart rate shot up to 120. Think Cherry!! Think!! Something nice…not too offensive..something polite to reject..
Still grinning with my brain worked in dual processing power…perspiring..for 5 seconds…
With the most sheepish smile:“Er…er…Actually..Er.. I’m not interested..er..Sorry.”
Followed by …………………. His face from

I quickly sat down, and wanted to bury my face on the ground. I told my friend what happened and he was totally shocked.
“How could you say this to him??? At least strike a conversation right??”
“I don’t see the point doing that!! I really am not interested!!”
“You’re mean!!”
For a moment, I really felt horrible. My head started to spin, I felt like I had a super low EQ. But again, I can’t think of anything else to say in that split second except to tell him the truth. I was so traumatised that I left shortly after that.
I know, I’m super “under exposed”, especially when I am not into clubbing scene. I thought this “picking-up” scene only happened in the movie.
What would you say if you were me?
