I have been having sore throat for a week and subsequently causing swelling on my neck lymph nodes. It is so painful that even when I yawned, I felt a discomfort on my jaw and neck.
I wanted to be well as I will be travelling soon. My friends urged me to see a doctor (and so happened that Don was away), I went to the nearest clinic with Wanlin instead.
When my name was called, Wanlin and I walked into the consultation room.
“Hi Doctor!” Just as he looked up to respond, I had a tingling feeling in my stomach.
“Doctor, you look familiar…”
He gave me a puzzled face.
After 5 seconds,“OH DEAR!! YOU’RE DON’S FRIEND!!!” I exclaimed.
He quickly looked at my name on the card again and was as shocked as me. His face turned red immediately, followed by an awkward silence.
Because of that awkward response, I felt awkward too.
“Er…So why didn’t you see Don?” He asked.
“Er…em..He is on call.”
He quickly “got down to business” by asking me many many routine questions and routine checkups such as blood pressure and etc.
“OK. Let me see if there’s discharge in your ear.” Then he stuck the otoscope into my ear.
I tell you, I tried to be as “professional” as a normal patient but hey, it is weird to have your boyfriend’s close friend to see your ears for discharge with an otoscope ok!
Just as I thought it couldn’t get any worse, he asked me to open my mouth real big and took a deep look into my tonsils. OH NO…MY SILVER TEETH FILLINGS!
*My self-consciousness kicked in* -_-
Then he came closer and pressed on both sides of my neck and jaws. The second he touched my neck, my stomach suddenly gave out a loud growl. -_-
I hope think he didn’t hear that…I think..
“OK..here a little bit swollen..” He pressed against my neck lymph node. “It is a reaction from throat infection.” Then he took out his stethoscope and pressed it lightly on my back and chest. You know what, I was so nervous that I even forgot to breathe! I think my heartbeat raced up to 120.
“Actually we met a few times..the..Mmm..”
“The wedding dinner…” He continued.
“Yeah..and a casual lunch!”
“Yeah…by the way, so sorry that I can’t waive your consultation fees. I am not the boss here.”
“Huh??!! NO NO!! I wasn’t expecting that! I mean I didn’t even expect to see you here!” *Sigh…only if I knew…I would avoid this awkwardness man.*
Now I know why Don insisted not to treat family and friends, if possible. Good thing is that I don’t need an injection. Imagine…if the doctor who gave me 3 vaccinations (1 on the butt) that day was Don’s friend…*gulp* -_-
In the future, I will also make sure that my obstetrician and gynae is NOT related to any of my friend and family IN ANYWAY. HAH!
