When this advertisement was shown on the TV, I thought it was a scam that tricked kids into buying the ring tone. Obviously, it is not. Listen to this. If you can hear a high pitch buzzing noise, congratulations, that means you are still young (below 40 years old).
My students played this ring tone during the lab. Suddenly I saw most of the the students frowned and some “stuck” their index fingers into their ears. Then my student asked me:”Cher, you cannot hear??” Me: “Hear?? What?”
My students laughed and said I was old. “Yeah, I know I am old..so?”
“Cher, if you’re above 40, you can’t hear this noise, this buzzing noise…”
“You mean, there was a buzzing noise??”
I took over his mobile phone and started playing the ring tone again. I saw students sticking their fingers into their ears again. The first thing that came to my mind was…They were playing a trick on me! There was no such buzzing noise.
So I stopped the ring tone and pretended that I was playing it. To my surprise, my students said I didn’t turn on the ring tone. Suddenly, it reminded me of a dog whistle. Its frequency is so high that only dog can hear while human can’t. Hah! So I am not a dog!
Today, my colleague forwarded this ring tone to us and asked us to try. Man!!! I can’t hear it again while others were replying that they heard a high pitch buzzing noise!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??!!! AM I DEAF OR WHAT? I went around to try this out to all my colleagues. Guess what, those who were above 40 years old, indeed, heard nothing!!! The younger ones said they heard a buzzing noise. One of my colleagues, who is from Applied science replied this:”The number of auditory hairs in our ear DECLINE as we AGE⦔
So now I know…I am just losing hair…
