It was all my fault for putting my phone in silent mode at work and totally forgot about it. I had 15 miss calls and a few smses, all about my wallet. Nick Pan called me several times and sent me a sms that someone called him that his ‘friend’ (me) lost her wallet. He tried to reach me several times but no avail. Then he called my another number which was answered by my mom in Malaysia. Mom tried to reach me too but obviously she can’t either. So she called my another friend to check on me, and he was looking for me up and down. My mom and him were so worried because they thought I lost my phone too.

I picked up the phone eventually and called the person who has got my ‘wallet’. I told him that I didn’t lose any wallet. And he asked me if my name was TAN MEI L*NG. HAHAhahaah….=) But he was nice, at least he tried his best to locate the owner. Nick was wondering how he has his number. He doesn’t know anyone by the name of MEI L*NG either. Mm… it was all my fault, for not picking up the phone.

I have a crazy and yet blissful weekend (again…:P). But let’s talk about our school CCN (campus care network) day on last Friday. It was a fund raising event where students setting up stalls to sell food/goods to raise fund for the less unfortunate students. Every corner of the school was crowded and speakers ‘blasted’ with hip hop music and screaming. It was very happening and my mom visited the fair too. After long discussion, several meetings and changing of ideas, my class finally decided to sell sausage sizzle.

They planned, organised and got everything in place before the event and I was very proud of them. To be frank, I was quite worried when they gave me a blank look just 2 days before the event. I was so happy that they made it on that day.

Their stall caught on fire (because they ‘bbq’ the sausages). I was told briefly that the cloth was caught on fire first and somehow the fire spread. The neighbouring stall helped to put off the fire by pouring a big bucket of ice water on my students and the fire too. Thank god that they acted so fast and no one gets hurt. But the news spread very fast. Even my colleagues asked me what my students were selling, they went:"Ohh…So that was your student!" Hahahaa…

Despite the fire and sausages flying everywhere, we still made a decent amount of profit!!! I was very proud of my students of how united and organised they were. Ahh..=)

Special guest appearance: Daniel flew to Singapore for Rapala fishing tournament and he got the spongebob souvenirs from Singapore Airlines!! It is quite challenging to get those toys sometimes because they tend to run out very fast when they have many children and old folks on board. He was incredible. He just asked:"Can I have the kid’s…" Before he could finish his question, the air stewardess gave him a bag of spongebob ‘wonders’. Wow…and I went ga-ga over the toys for the next few days…even till now..:P Man..I am such a spongebob and patrick’s fan!

I had never seen people catching big fish in live action before and this time, FINALLY I saw real LIVE action! I took my mom to Pasir Ris pay pond to visit Daniel. Wow…when mom and I saw a man caught a HUGE fish (I think it was a grouper), we just went speechless, followed by a scream. Too bad I was too stunned to take a picture of the catch. Totally wasted!

If I ever catch a biggie, I will become crazy and fly myself to the moon immediately. Too bad, the only fish I have caught so far was blow fish. How pathetic! Hey, but I am very good at crabbing ok??

PAYM 35th anniversary ball

We were invited by PAYM to their 35th anniversary ball on Saturday night. It was a formal event and everyone was looking at his/her best. The minister of defense was the guest of honour. I was quite excited to see him in real person. Not that I am his big fan in particular but simply because that I saw him on the TV for so many times and it is absolutely normal to be excited to see any real person from the ‘TV’ in real life.

This happened 2 weeks ago, at a pharmacy where mom was getting some Lozenges. I, was wandering around the pharmacy. As I walked past a narrow aisle, a warm, light and swift sensation of thousands of follicles from an arm brushed against mine in a split second. Usually I couldn’t be bothered but at the count of 3 seconds, I looked back. And at the same time, the guy turned and looked at me. Eyes contacted, heart thumping, cheek flushing, pupils dilated and head spinning… and it all happened for another 3 seconds. His cheeks were blushing and politely gave me a slight nod. I wasn’t sure if I was smiling back to him but I knew I was numb for another 3 seconds. (till now I still can’t explain how and why I reacted in such a way).

Whenever I recall this incident, some korean drama OST will sure replay on my head. No, I am not a big fan of korean dram (except ‘sweet 18′ – the one in the picture) And was he good looking? Er..to be frank, I can’t remember how he looked like but I was still wondering why I would bother to look back. Mm…

At some point of your life, you will receive tonnes of wedding invitation every other week. And yes, I have reached that point, finally. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. Just that, it made me realised that I am ‘officially’ aging and stepped into the adulthood. (Yeah, I was still in denial before that) When I was ‘much’ younger, I always looked forward to be invited to a friend’s wedding, instead of ‘going with’ my parents to a wedding.

I have 2 weddings invitations this month, one next month. 2 of my colleagues getting married and a best friend of mine. And the other day, I found out that 4 of my ex schoolmates were married from friendster . That’s the ‘advantage’ of having friendster, you know who is getting married and who has ALREADY married. It certainly made me feel that my turn is coming up…:P Hehehe

Speaking of colleagues getting married, one is tomorrow and another one in June. So automatically, other colleagues assumed that mine will be in July. (Yeah, why me?? why July?) Because I am the only one who is still single, and probably they want to attend weddings in 3 months in a row?..:( My colleagues always trying to match make me with other guys at school. Sometimes, they even mention it to our external client. *so embarrassing* I just wish to hide under the table when they gave me that kind of ‘are-you-kidding’ and disbelief look.

I know probably you want to ask me if the fact of my friends are getting married affected me. Well, yes and no. Yes – I feel like I am aging. No – I haven’t planned to get married so soon. Not until I find the Mr. Right and I am taking my own sweet time….Life is so good now…=)

Since I work in Singapore, I realised how hard it is for Singaporean mothers to stay at home taking care of their kids. There are always forums on the TV highlighting this issue too. Of course there are many factors which keep modern moms away from home: high living expenses, personal ambitions etc.

If it is 20 years ago, life could be so much easier. Back then, it is almost ‘normal’ to have moms staying at home taking care of the kids. If you tell others that you work, they would probably think you are the worst mom in the world.

I was very blessed to have my mom taking care of us 24/7 when we were young. Till now, I still remember our daily activities. We used to paint and draw, playing barbie dolls and cooking game together etc. Mom also put up a small white board in the room where my sister and I used to sit quietly on the bed (with air-con) learning our ABC. Then my mom had Q&A sessions. I always wanted to go to school since I was 3. You know, back at my time we didn’t have nursery. The earliest schooling year was 5 years old. So my mom did home schooling everyday.

The best thing of being a stay-at-home mom is, you won’t miss any memorable moment with your kid. My mom can tell me every moment about me in the past, when I spoke my first word and etc. She told me that I had a small pink colour bag that kept my pencils and ABC book when I was 10 months old. Every night about 10p.m, I dragged my bag to her and put my ABC book in front of her (Yes, I walked already!). Then she went through from A to Z while I sat quietly listening to her. And that was how I knew my ABC when I was 1 year old. Most of our relatives did not believe it and they often tested me by pointing at some random alphabets on the street. When they knew I can recognise them, they thought my mom forced me to learn. Well, my mom never force me to study or do my homework since I started schooling. She is the most understanding mom.

After my sister was born, we had even more fun! I remember helping my mom put cherries and raisins on cup cakes, feeding my ducklings and chicks, folding handkerchiefs, combing dolls’ hair and etc. Sometimes my mom set up a inflatable pool at the garden in the afternoon and we loved it so much. How I hope I can fit into the pool now. OOh, we also had a inflatable mickey house.:)

Sometimes when my mom hand washed our clothing, both my sis and I love to sit and watch her because we wanted to be asked to help. Mom will let us twisting some handkerchiefs. When she was in ‘crazy mode’, she covered us with the super dripping wet clothing on both of us out of a sudden. Then we both screamed and were soaking wet.

I think I have grown up too fast. I miss the fun so much! I hope I can give my kids the same childhood as my mom did. I wouldn’t want to miss any moment watching them grow. And if I can turn back time, what I wish to have is a video camera. Those footage will be absolutely priceless! Luckily we do have a good collection of pictures because my mom loved to take photos of us….
