Some of you may know that my dream ambition is to become a food editor, co’s I get to eat different kind of exotic food around the world for FREE. If they know I am the editor, they will give me special service and garnish every single dish they serve. Then I can go..Mm…and frown while tasting and they will be panic for awhile. Hahhaah…man…it is good to get special service once in a blue moon.
Anyway, back to the food journal. I had been exploring Singapore food for the past few days and it was AWESOME! I went to ‘Out of the pan‘ (at Raffles City Shopping Centre) again for the crepes. It is one of my favourite eating place in Singapore.
Hope you had your meals before proceed to the next paragraph..
This time, I had the tandoori chicken crepe. Very delicious!

Ya…that’s me. Taken from upstairs. Too bad that you can’t see the fountain.

After dinner, I walked to Raffles Hotel for a drink. I love there so much because they sing my favourite songs all the time. (eg. Fly me to the moon…etc). The previous trip to Singapore, my mom took me there 3 nights in a row co’s it was just too lovely.
I was attracted to the palm trees…as always..

The next day, I went to Boat Quay for dinner. I took a cab there and guess how much it cost? 20 BUCKS! And 10 cents! The most expensive taxi fare I have ever encountered. Anyway, went for an Italian cuisine. I ordered a pasta with seafood base.
The funniest part was, the price of the pasta and the base was separated. At first I thought the pasta was only 9 dollars. I was amazed. But later one when the bill came, it was 17+ dollars! Guess what, they charged the base and pasta separately. I had beef ravioli so the ravioli itself costed 7+ dollars. Funny huh…
Forgot to take the picture of my ravioli. Too hungry…but took a few pictures with the Fullerton Hotel.

My bronze boy friend

My mom took me out for a valentine dinner last night at Ikoi restaurant (at Miramar Hotel).
It is my must-visit restaurant when I am in Singapore. The buffet is fantastic and the price is reasonable too. Another reason why I like the place so much is because the chef is very creative. He created various tastes to the food. Unlike some other restaurants, it is either shoyu (soy sauce) or miso base.
The buffet works like this, you can order anything from the menu and they will serve you the food. So it is good for
a lazy bum like me. Yesterday was valentine so they served more than 15 valentine dishes first. Customer can order more
later if it was not enought. But to be frank, after the 8th dish, I can hardly move already.
Food was ‘piling up’…Losing my speed..

A. One of my favourite – Shisamo (pregnant fish)
B. Cherry tomatoes wrapped in bacon strips. *mmm..*
C. Salmon wrapped and cooked in a ‘paper bag’. Look at the next picture for clearer view.
It was super juicy. All the goodness of the salmon was wrapped in the paper..
The valentine’s special with mickey and minie mouse fish cake.
The left over – can’t finish the sashimi…wasted..

I guess after a week, I am getting better. I have already become accustomed to the lifestyle here. For the past 1 week, I have taken 8 bus rides and countless MRT. Hey, I guess I am doing good. Haven’t taken public transportation for so many times (in a week) in my life before.
At the school hall

So I went to one of the secondary schools for marketing visit. I felt so much for the students when they were receiving their results. Some were crying, some were yelling and some were just CONFUSED! Some of them came to us and asked what they can do with such and such result. To be frank, I felt terrible for them. I am so lucky that I don’t have to go through this when I was leaving my high school. It is such a competitive society. Everyone is looking for good students, their ‘bread and butter’.
So how about those students who did not get a good result? According to one of the marketer, these students will go to some technical school instead.
And the public will start to judge them. After they graduated from the technical school, they will be judged again when they apply for a higher education, because they are not the so-called ‘bread and butter’ of the respected schools. Man..I did’t know it is so tough to be a student..=(

So I am back at school…walking amid students and noices…reminded me of the old school day. I felt like I was a little older, as if I have passed the schooling phase. My ‘buddy’/mentor was great! He picked me up from my apartment (he drove a RED COOPER S!). I can hardly recognise him in red T-shirt and jeans today (the shirt matched the red car!) Ok..when I met him previously, he was in a Hawaiian shirt and bermudas. =)
He showed me around the campus and got me to sign tonnes of documents. And as usual, I needed to get a picture for my access card. Unlike at Curtin, you just smiled at the machine and it printed out your access card no matter you like it or not. But I had a photographer (with Nikon D70) to take my pictures and I can choose the one I like the best. It was so funny when he said my face had ‘too much of reflection’. I didn’t get him until he passed me a tissue to wipe my face. Luckily, as usual I didn’t wear makeup. *phew* The photographer and his assistant commented that I looked like a college student. Well, I took it as compliment. =)
My course manager and a few colleagues from the same ‘cluster’ took me out for lunch. Man, these human-beings were the craziest creatures I have worked with so far. I had so much fun listening to their jokes and stories. And I can’t believe they are married and have kids co’s they are so young at heart.
So in the afternoon, I was required to collect the employment pass at the Ministry of Manpower. It was so far away! I had to take a bus to the MRT station then transited twice on trains. The whole journey took me 1 hour. And guess what, they wanted me to go back again to collect my passport! My god! Unlike the immigration in Australia, once your received the letter, you just need to go there once and get the visa at the same time. Plus, the queue was so long and I waited for another hour to reach my turn. Man…and when I came back, the trains were packed and I was being pushed so many times! Argh….I really admire those kids who take public transportations here and there. Man….I had never taken a public transportation for such a long journey. Oh god…I think I am going to pass out. I should have taken a cab but my inner voice told me to be stronger and took it as a challenge. See what my inner voice has done to me…*sigh* But come and think of it, it could be worse!

The night before I fly to Singapore, my heart just sank to the bottom. I was very upset, because I am so used to living in KL and I had a great time working there as well. I did not pack much because I just moved back from KL and I can still bring the same luggages to Singapore.
However, I was very grateful that my employer arranged someone to pick me up. This person is my ‘buddy’ and will look after me at work as well. The best thing was, he was actually a graduate from Curtin School of Design, too. Same as where I graduated. We chatted about school, the lecturers and the cement-looking building. He graduated 10 years before me and since then, (according to him) nothing much has changed (he visited my school a month ago).
So I was allocated to stay at the staff apartment and I can have the whole unit by myself. It has 2 bedrooms, 1 study room and a utility room. From the balcony, you can see a huge reservoir, swimming pool, tennis court and greens.
From the balcony…there is a huge reservoir behind the pink condo..

Part of the kitchen

The living room. Look at my new TV. Aww…how can I survive without TV..

The master bedroom with attached bathroom

The first 2 days were tough. The aparment was pretty empty as it was only half furnished. I needed household stuff like broom, mop, TV (ya TV is considered as household stuff to me), towels, floor maps, pails, and the lists went on. I am very lucky that I have my mom with me to help me to settle down. But we can’t do it if it was without my good ‘ol friend… *so touched* He took us everywhere for 2 days and loaded his car with our stuff! And he helped me to carry TV and fix the TV for me too….then he secretly bought me some bread, cheese and ham for breakfast. Aww….how sweet..
I kept wondering why I was so down since I moved here. Was it because of the environment? The country? The people or the job? Then I finally came to a conclusion that, it is because I AM SPOILT! VERY VERY SPOILT! You see, when I was in KL, Zhong used to take me here and there for nice restaurants, shopping and cinema. I almost broke down yesterday when I walked past a cinema, because I am SO USED to watching movie at least once a week! I started hanging out with my working outfit on Friday night till Sunday night. Everything was too great back in KL. So in comparison….you should be able to understand why I am feeling so down…All because I am too SPOILT!
