6 of us ‘represented’ the AMS (The Association of Malaysian Students) to meet our Minister of Education from Malaysia. I went straight from work as the dinner was held at Acacia hotel. The majority were malays and that made us felt that we were back in Malaysia again. They had a group of malay drama group to perform malay poetries and songs, people communicating in FLUENT malay… It was exactly like having dinner in Malaysia.

The purpose of The minister visiting us was to discuss some problems that the Malaysian students facing when studying in Australia. Most of the JPA students were requesting for more allowances. Our minister advised the graduates to extend our stay in Australia to seek for working experiences before going back to Malaysia. That, made me raised up a question regarding the visa problem. We can’t extend our stay after graduation if a) no sponsors (from employee or family member who is an Australia PR); b) not a PR. However, what he advised us was….to talk to the immigration and see what they can help us…:(
Our idol…The chancellor of Curtin University. The man who congratulates and shakes thousands of hands each year during convocation. (ooh..and he is Malaysian..)
